One District One Product (ODOP) initiative aims to promote balanced regional development in all the districts of the country. The objective of this initiative is to select, brand and promote at least one product from each district of the country to enable overall socio-economic development in all regions. The ODOP initiative has identified 1102 products from 761 districts across the country.
Sand stone tiles have been selected by the government in Gwalior district under One District One Product. Natural stone is found in abundance in Gwalior district. The sand stone found here is used in the manufacturing of stone tiles/statues etc. At present, about 35 stone tiles manufacturing and stone cutting and polishing units are established in Stone Park Old Cantonment established by the Industrial Area Development Corporation (MPIDC) City Center Gwalior in Gwalior district, in which about 455 people have been provided permanent employment. Being natural stone of excellent quality, the stone tiles manufactured by these units are exported to Gulf countries.
